#2-Picture 2

Elizabeth Eckford is an extremely iconic woman for the fight for Civil Rights in America. Elizabeth is one of the African American students known as the Little Rock Nine. On September 4 1957, as the picture depicts, she and eight African American students tried to enter Little Rock Central High School. Little Rock Central was at the time a school that only accepted white attendees. As they got to the door they were stopped by National Guards of Arkansas. The Little Rock Nine attempted to get into the school again but they failed once more. As a result, the current President Eisenhower, sent troops the next day to accompany the now famous Little Rock Nine to school. There is one sight of irony in the picture and that’s the girl shouting in the back round. It is said that later she worked with Elizabeth Eckford to promote racial harmony.
